Architectural Services in Malmesbury, Swartland & the Winelands

Forty years in practice. Grounded design. Buildings that belong where they’re built.

Design66 is based in Malmesbury – a deliberate choice. The Swartland is where we work now, and where we are building. We serve residential, commercial and industrial clients in Malmesbury and across the Swartland, Winelands, and broader Western Cape.

We also offer structured mentorship for emerging architects and firms.

We call it Barefoot Architecture. Not minimal. Not casual. Down-to-earth while delivering work that lasts.

Residential Architecture

Homes designed for where you live - and how you live.

house La Grange Paarl Home design construction

Building or renovating a home is one of the most significant decisions you’ll make. It deserves a designer who listens before drawing – someone who understands how a family actually uses a space, not just how it should look on paper.

We work with residential clients across Malmesbury, the Swartland, Riebeek Valley, and the Winelands. We know the landscape, the climate, and the planning context of this region. That local knowledge shapes better buildings.

Our residential services:

New residential design – from single dwellings to smallholdings and wine farm residences

Extensions and additions – integrated with your existing structure

Alterations and renovations – respectful of what’s there, improved for what you need.

Sustainable design rooted in the landscape.

As-Built Plans

Building plan submission and council approvals

Project administration and contractor coordination

Commercial Architecture

Commercial buildings that work - for your business and your context.

The Swartland and Winelands are growing. Agricultural estates, wine cellars, boutique hospitality, offices, and mixed-use developments all require architecture that understands the local vernacular and the commercial brief in equal measure.

Design66 brings four decades of commercial experience to every brief. We have designed for corporate clients, agricultural businesses, and institutional bodies – and we apply the same rigour to a warehouse in Paarl as to a wine farm in Franschhoek.

Our commercial services:

New commercial and industrial buildings

Agricultural and wine estate architecture

Office, retail, and mixed-use design

Hospitality and accommodation projects

Refurbishment and adaptive reuse of existing buildings

Full project administration and contractor coordination

Industrial Architecture

Functional buildings, properly designed.

Industrial buildings have a brief that commercial and residential work doesn’t –  efficiency, workflow, compliance, and long-term operational performance. Getting it wrong costs more than a redesign.

Design 66 has designed industrial facilities for manufacturing, warehousing, and processing clients. We understand what an industrial brief actually requires: clear spans, materials handling, services integration, future flexibility, and compliance with occupational and environmental regulations – all delivered within a realistic budget and programme.

Our industrial services:

Manufacturing and production facilities

Warehousing and logistics buildings

Processing and storage facilities

Industrial alterations, extensions, and refurbishments

Building plan submission and regulatory compliance

Project administration and contractor coordination

Mentorship for Architects & Students

Forty years of hands-on experience. Worth sharing.

Architecture is a long road. The gap between graduating and becoming a confident, capable practitioner is real — and not every firm has the senior capacity to close it.

Adriaan Schutte offers structured professional mentorship for:

Architectural graduates and candidates working towards SACAP registration – building practical competency and navigating the professional development process

Junior architects and technologists within established firms – targeted guidance on project delivery, client management, and technical decision-making

Small practices that need a senior sounding board – without the overhead of a full partnership

Sessions are practical and project-focused.

Conducted in Malmesbury, remotely, or on-site depending on what works for you.
